HERO PAPER

by Josh Reid

To me, one of the most heroic people in my life is my dad. In this paper I will tell you most of my reasons why he is heroic to me.

My dad (Bryan J. Reid) was born August 15th 1957. He was born in and grew up in Lake Placid, New York. He has three brothers and three sisters.

One of the main reasons why he is my hero is because of his job. My dad is a Police Officer. I think it is heroic that everyday he goes to work and risks his life to make things better for me and the rest of my family.

In my opinion my dad is one of the nicest people I know. If I ever needed any help with anything – school or something else, he would help me with it.

To back up what I have just said I will tell you a few facts that I think are heroic:

For instance, when we lived in Massachusetts, my dad worked four jobs because he could not find a full-time job when he got out of the Army. My dad was a Staff Sergeant in the Army for almost 13 years in the Military Intelligence Branch and no one would give him a chance and hire him. There weren't many job opportunities in Massachusetts. My dad worked for two police departments as a police officer, plowed snow in the winter, and worked for Digital Equipment Corporation. My dad did the best he could and never complained and is a good man.

When my dad first became a police officer in Massachusetts, I knew that I wanted to be one too. I would also like to be on the SWAT team, too.

My dad loves to play golf and he takes me along to the golf course and the driving range and helps me learn how to play golf the right way.

My dad is the Missouri State Chaplain of the Fraternal Order of Police and is running for President of the Jefferson City chapter of the F.O.P. My dad travels all over the state and country for meetings and conventions – my mom goes with dad sometimes. This summer we are going to Orlando, Florida for a national F.O.P. meeting. This is one of my dad's main priorities, outside of work. I think it is heroic how much time he and other police officers devote to the F.O.P. on their own time.

My dad is my hero and my friend. I think that from this paper you should have learned at least some of the reasons why I consider my dad heroic. Thank you for taking the time to read my paper.
